FAQs

What do your clients have to say about you?

Ed D., from the U.K. had the following to say after a 65-mile Mullholland Challenge:  “Just a quick note to say thanks so much for a great day last week. I'd highly recommend you both to anyone, you're well organised, the day was perfect for me, you even organised some great weather in an otherwise rainy week.  Only problem is the long term cost:  I've spent the day at the bike shop as you've inspired me to upgrade! Again thanks for a great day, all the best.”

Julie F. from Florida said: “Signing on with Alex & Gloria absolutely made the trip [to watch the Tour of California] the most amazing experience.  Even before I was committed,  Alex was so helpful with advice on where to stay.  He always replied promptly and spent a lot of time advising me and explaining his services.  It was like talking to a good friend. And that is how we were treated the whole time. We spent 3 days with them.   They took care of everything, bikes, ride details, set up, food, even clothing for the chilly weather. They conferred with us ahead of time to get proper fitting for bikes.  They are both excellent cyclists.  My companion Vinny took off each day with Alex and Gloria took time and patience with me as I am not as accomplished.  She is an excellent cycling teacher.  Wish I could ride with them more often! They are experienced, trustworthy, and just really good people!  Not to mention so much fun to be with!  I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for a well planned and fun cycling trip.  I can't wait until we can get back to California for another ride with them. You will be in good hands with them and also make some very good cycling friends!”

Will you provide a tour for a solo rider?

Absolutely.  We are here so you can treat yourself to that personal century you have in mind.  Train with us and you will hammer, attack, and breakaway.  We stand by your desire to challenge yourself for any reason.  All of our tours come with an optional bike guide so you will have an experienced riding partner by your side offering encouragement, support, and camaraderie.  When you book with us, it’s just you we are serving.

My group of 6 buddies would like to do a century that would not fit in our busy schedule, could you do it?

We provide the organization, direction, and support so that you and your peloton can ride your favorite century without the masses on a day convenient for you.  We offer discounts on groups of four or more.

Are your rides catered to duos?

We provide adventures for those who enjoy the company of a special person, love the road, and thrive on hammering together.  We will help you meet all of your riding and together-time goals.

I have some ideas for a celebration with my cycling friends, can you help?  My partner loves to ride, and I want to gift him one of your tours, is that possible?

Totally.  Have a two-wheeled celebration for that milestone, anniversary or "just because" event?  Mark the occasion with customized musettes and route slips.  We will bring the cake and candles.  You tell us what you want, we will brainstorm and make a proposal of your day.  If you are gifting a tour to a loved one, you can not only organize the surprise with us, we will work to include you in on the special tour...on or off the bike.

Do you offer tours year-round?

Yes.  Our weather for the most part is sunny and warm.  Annually, we have 10 super-cold and 20 extra-hot days---the other 335 days are perfect for bike riding.  Average climate: 48-68°F (winter), 70-83°F (summer).

Where do the tours begin from?

All of our tours begin at a place that will be convenient to you, such as your hotel.  Some of our tours require some travel time depending on your location.  We work to minimize car travel time and maximize saddle-time.

Do you have to be an intrepid cyclist to have a good time on a Col de SAG tour?

No, as long as you are reasonably comfortable on a bicycle and in physical shape.  Remember: we totally go at your pace.

Will you address any mechanical problem on the ride?

We will repair a flat or fix a minor mechanical problem.  We could perform limited fittings.  We will check your bicycle before we start to make sure that it appears to be in working order.  We have a limited supply to tires and tubes, for a fee, in case those need to be changed out.  We want you to have a great time.  No worries if your bike is rusty.  Our rental bikes are always in superb cosmetic and mechanical condition.

What if I get lost?

You shouldn’t get lost as we will be on the route with you, and you will have a detailed route slip.  However, if you do go off the beaten path, you can reach us via cell phone or a walkie-talkie we will provide in no cellphone service areas.  We’ll find you.

What kind of sport nutrition should I expect?

We are open to getting you your favorites.  You can expect top-shelf sports nutrition.  Routinely, we will stock Clif Bars, Power Gels, Gatorade Endurance, Cytomax, and Clif Bar electrolytes.  The flavors will be on an availability basis, unless specifically requested.  We can offer vegan, kosher, organic, caffeine-free, gluten-free and lactose-free drink and food selections at your request.

I am coming from out of town and would like to rent a bike and helmet, can you help?

Absolutely. We can obtain a bicycle and helmet for you to rent provided that you know you bicycle and helmet size and are able to bring your own cycling shoes and bike pedals.  If you don’t ride with cycling shoes, don’t worry: we stock regular bicycle pedals you can use with your tennis shoes.  Our bike rentals, however, are only available with a bike tour.
